The treatment of hemorrhoids is aimed at alleviating symptoms such as swelling and rectal itching. Hemorrhoids, commonly referred to as piles, are the rectal and anal veins which start swelling due to increased pressure. When pressure is exerted on the rectal walls, the muscles that provide support to the blood vessels weaken. As a result the vessels become enlarged and protrude either within the rectal canal or around the anus. Internal hemorrhoids refer to those which develop at the top of the anal canal. External hemorrhoids refer to those which develop near the anus at the lower part of the anal canal. In some cases, internal hemorrhoids may push outwards through the anal opening. This is known as a prolapsed hemorrhoid. When blood accumulates in an external hemorrhoid, a clot may develop, leading to what is called a thrombosed external hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids treatment usually involves the application of ointments or intake of drugs aimed at reducing inflammation. One can also cure hemorrhoids using various home remedies.

Hemorrhoids usually occur with advancing age. Pregnant women are also susceptible to this condition. Some of the causes of hemorrhoids include continuous straining of the bowels, sitting for prolonged periods of time, sedentary lifestyle, consumption of foods low in fiber, obesity, liver cirrhosis and infection of the rectum or anus. Hemorrhoids lead to symptoms such as itching in the rectal area, incomplete emptying of the bowels, presence of blood in the stools or toilet paper and sensation of a lump near the anal opening.

Natural treatment for hemorrhoids is known to be very effective in relieving symptoms. A beneficial natural remedy for hemorrhoids is to consume a concoction of mint leaves juice, ginger juice and lime juice once daily. One could also get rid of hemorrhoids by soaking in a bath of warm water for ten minutes. Ice packs are also known to be effective in treating hemorrhoids. One can also treat hemorrhoids and rectal itching by applying petroleum jelly around the anal area. One of the most popular natural cure for piles is the application of a mixture of honey and white radish juice to the affected area. You may also soak some figs in water for a night and consume on an empty stomach the next morning. Another treatment for hemorrhoids involves consumption of mashed ripe banana and milk thrice a day. This helps to alleviate the pain and discomfort. In addition to these remedies for hemorrhoids, one must also consume high fiber foods in order to facilitate proper bowel movements.
