Bladder Infection
Bladder infection is type of urinary tract infection (UTI) affecting urinary system. Bladder infection is caused by Escherichia coli bacteria; it multiplies in urine when it gets in to the bladder. This infection is common in women as compared to men because the female anatomy makes it convenient for these bacteria, which normally resides in colon, to travel from the rectum to vagina, up the urethra and into the bladder. It occurs in men because of the enlargement of prostrate gland causing pooling of urine in the bladder. The most common type of bladder infection is called cystitis – inflammation of bladder.
Symptoms of Bladder Infection :
There are many symptoms of bladder infection but the most common is the continuous urge to empty the bladder with a burning sensation while urinating.
The patient may experience a slight pain in the pelvis, lower back and lower abdomen, with a rise in body temperature in acute stage. Urine may be thick dark and stringy with an unpleasant smell and the presence of blood or pus.
Bladder infection occurs mainly due to the following reasons
Irritation of the urethra – substances like soap, stool, or clothing can cause soreness of the urethra, making it easier for bacteria to invade.
Holding the urine for long time – due to this the bacteria gets more time to get to the bladder and multiply.
Abnormal anatomy of the body – improperly developed tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder, or the urethra increases the risk of bladder infections.
Constipation – the bladder may not drain properly due to large amounts of stool sitting in the colon, which can press up against the bladder and urethra, allowing bacteria to grow.
Improper wiping – this increases stool and bacteria around the urethra.
Bladder infection may arise due infection in adjacent parts of the bladder and Uncontrolled diabetes.
Home remedy for bladder infection :
The best home remedy for bladder infection is to stop consuming solid food stuffs. Drink either water or tender coconut water for three or four days, especially if there is a fever. If there is no fever, raw vegetable juices, especially carrot juice diluted with water with 1:1 ratio should be taken every two hours.
It is advisable to avoid refined carbohydrates, salt, poultry, meat and fish.
Cucumber juice is an excellent diuretic. It should be taken twice a day mixed with two teaspoons of honey and one tablespoon of lime juice.
